We are delighted to announce that EYCA has been awarded the European Citizenship Award for the Europe for a Change II youth campaign initiative!
About the Award This is the third year that La Fédération Française des Maisons de l'Europe (FFME) has run the European Citizenship Award, which rewards initiatives by individuals and organisations that strengthen awareness of European Union citizenship. The award is endorsed by the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, and the Committee of the Regions. The Jury of the European Citizenship Award 2006 met on 27th February in Brussels, selecting EYCA as prize winner in the category of ‘organisation’ for the Europe for a Change II project. Awards Ceremony The official award-giving ceremony took place on Friday 23rd March, 2007 in Rome, part of the celebrations which were organized to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. The prize included an invitation for three representatives to participate in the awards ceremony. Gabi Haslinger of EURO<26 Austria, who created the initiative, along with two of the young participants, received the award on behalf of the whole team. The two young people who represented the group at the ceremony were Ioanna Constantiou from Cyprus (18) and Alexander Padilla Lopez from Basque Country, Spain (19) both tremendously enthusiastic participants throughout the project. The three also took part in a debate on the future of the European Union. During this debate, Europe for a Change II / EYCA was presented as a model for promotion of European citizenship among young people.
Congratulations to the 8 Project Partners, 10 Promotion Partners and 27 Young Participants who worked so hard to make this project a success!
